#26 - On why it's difficult for me to come up with blog posts
Recently, I've found it difficult to come up with blog posts. I've lazed around and often forgotten to write anything. There are four main reasons why:
Life has fallen into a routine
After 8 months in Chicago, my exciting transition into MBA life in America has become the new normal. I have fallen into a comfortable life, full of a standard routine of regular activities. There has been a lot less exploration and randomness. Even new and novel experiences have a tinge of familiarity to them.
Don't get me wrong. I'm definitely enjoying my MBA experience more than ever before. It's just that there is less surprise and delight and more enduring happiness and contentment. The latter does not make the best blog fodder.
I am spending less time on introspection
This quarter, I am taking 5 subjects which also require a significant amount of work outside of class. Together with my internship search, my academic load has cut back on the time I have for mindless introspection and daydreaming. Additionally, having multiple late night classes has also reduced the time I traditionally spent thinking of blog ideas.
However, this is a problem with a simple solution. I just need to spend more time on thinking, away from my laptop, phone and other distractions/devices.
My most interesting discussions are now more personal
Since the start of the year, I have significantly deepened my relationship with a core group of close friends. Many of my most interesting discussions are with these people, and are about their (and my own) lives. Given that these conversations are so deeply personal, I can't write about them, significantly reducing the amount of material that I have to write blog posts about.
My creative attention has been diverted elsewhere
My creative outlet for the last three weeks has been editing photos (you can find them here)
I have tried to be very selective in my photo editing and curation, publishing ¬10% of all the photos that I took during my travels in Morocco and Southern Spain. I have also been much more deliberate in how I have edited photos by actively thinking of the output I want and trying different edits to achieve that outcome. This differs from my previous approach of trying a lot of random things until something caught my eye.
Now that most of my photos have been edited, I should have more time to thing about life and my blog.
